Fishing 2003

Here are some photos taken on a couple of my fishing trips in 2003. I like fishing almost as much as I like flying. However, for pure monetary reasons, I went fishing a lot more frequently. Here are a few highlights.

Clearwater River - Orofino, ID

The clearwater river is a only about 3 hours drive south of Coeur d'Alene and there is some terriffic steelhead fishing there. Here are a few pics.

My friend Justin with a couple nice fish. In most rivers, a guy would be happy with the small one.

Here my buddy Josh holds a healthy 13 pounder, and I've got an even healthier 17 pounder.

Here the two fish are side by side. Poor Josh.

Here stand three proud fisherman with the mornings take. Adrian there has about a 14 pounder.

Here is a shot of the river. This is called the North Fork of the Clearwater River. It is the outlet from Dworshak reservior. You can see the top of the dam in the background.

Here is my long time hunting/fishing buddy Terry. He looks pretty serious, the fish must be biting.

Kenai River - Alaska

I went up to Alaska last summer with some friends and family. My uncle Jim has a cabin right next to the Kenai river. We did some king salmon fishing, some sockey salmon fishing, and took a boat out on the ocean to try our luck at halibut fishing.

Here is a shot of the Kenai River. It is hard to see in this picture but there are fisherman lining the banks on both sides of the river. There isn't a gap between fisherman big enough to fit an RV-3 shortways.

Here stands fisherman galore Tom with a nice 43 pound king we caught.

And here is my Uncle John acting like he caught all of these fish himself. We probably caught 100 sockey in the week we were there.

Here are the halibut we caught. It is kind of a weird way to fish. We got up at about 3:00 A.M. and it was light out. We drove down to the place where we met our boat. We hauled ass strait out into the ocean about 20 miles. We fished for maybe an hour and half. Caught all kinds of nasty looking fish while the tide was changing, and then went home.

Nasty looking fish example.

Check this out. They launch the boats right on the beach with a logging skidder.

Here is the boat we went out on. It was called "Reel Time". A young guy from southern Idaho had built it and taken it up there to guide fishing trips.

Look at the engines on that mother. Twin 225 hp monsters. The biggest Yamaha makes.

...and here my Uncle John tries to figure out how to work the pole holder.
